Meet Our Faculty

Meet the Amazing Yoga Teachers on our Faculty

Yogacara’s Faculty of Yoga Teachers (aka Teacher Trainers) are a tight-knit group of Teachers having formed valuable peer relationships and friendships while working together over the past years.

Each team member brings her own unique style and essence to our Yoga Teacher Training programs giving you, the Student, an opportunity to experience more than one way to learn and teach yoga.  All Yogacara Faculty commit to ongoing Continuing Education every year to ensure they are leading the way with the most essential and creative lesson plans.

The Faculty meets several times in between programs to discuss and prepare for upcoming trainings ~ to review what we can do better and to listen to feedback from our recent graduates.  Our Teacher Training Director and Head of Faculty, Helene Whitfield, provides this entire team of Teachers with structure and support while allowing for each unique personality to shine.

Combined, these elements ensure you have a solid and cohesive Faculty to lead you during your Yoga Teacher Training journey.

Helene Whitfield

Helene Whitfield

Director of Teacher Training | ERYT500

Meet Helene

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
As the Director of Training, I wear many hats for the Team. When I am teaching, I am forever inspired by the Students who come with resolve to practice at their level for that day. Those Students understand Yoga has left their ego at the door and that they should practice at the level for their body and soul on that day. In a world that breeds competition, it can be a hard thing to do. I am so proud of those who are comfortable in their practice and understand what the true practice of Yoga is on and off the mat.

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be?
A young soul who was never named and never quite made it into this earthly realm.

What inspires you most when teaching students?
I am inspired by inspiring. I feel that as a Team Leader, it is my role to ensure that our Teachers and Students always feel inspired to future their path in Yoga.

Pets?
Nala (King Charles Spaniel/Poodle).

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Making mistakes is not just part of the process ~ It IS the process. If you only allow for “perfection” on the first run you allow for little room for growth. Pencils have erasers for a reason.

What types of Yoga do you teach?

Your favourite Asana?
Child’s Pose

Favourite food?

Oldest historical event you can remember that you were alive for?
Eruption of Mount St. Helen’s

When you were a Student what inspired you to Live Your Yoga?
To be honest, when I was a student, I was most cynical about it all. And then about 1/2 way through my program something switched. I woke up and it was as if I just understood that Yoga had nothing much to do with Postures, and everything to do with living and how you live. Acceptance of others and acceptance of yourself ~ perfect as we all are.

Pet Peeve?
Lateness.

Who would people say is your Doppleganger?
Michelle Pfeiffer (but only because I have been told this)

Favourite Quote?
“People who shine from within, don’t need a spotlight.”

Your hope for the Students in Your Training?
That they find room for growth and to open their hearts and minds. Sometimes we really have no idea how set we are in our ways, until the Yoga path shows us this truth.!

Angela Inglis

Angela Inglis

Lead Teacher Trainer | RYT500

Meet Angela

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
It’s difficult to choose just one. I often comment to my friends that my “job” is so rewarding because almost every time I do it, I am thanked or offered other verbal appreciation. If I must choose just one memorable experience it would be when, recently, a woman who has been coming to my classes for a few years – and has never said more than “hello” or “thank you” – approached me just before a class and handed me a bag without a word. Inside was a card, some tea and a gift-card as well. The card said, “Thank you for your inspiring teaching style.” It’s one of the most rewarding compliments I’ve ever received.

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be?
Siddhartha Gautama/Gautama Buddha; we usually just call him Buddha.

What inspires you most when teaching students?
The opportunity to share the practical magic I have discovered with Yoga and Ayurveda with them; in hopes that it will help them, as it has helped me, to live a more fulfilling and meaningful life.

Pets?
No.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
You are already enough. You don’t need to prove your worth. You are deserving of others’ time and love, simply by virtue of being alive. Now that you know this, what will you do with your life?

What types of Yoga do you teach?
Hatha, Yin, AyurYoga, Prenatal, Restorative, Vinyasa, Vijnana & Tensegrity

Other skills you are certified in?
Ayurvedic Health Educator & Consultant

Oldest historical event you can remember that you were alive for?
I was in my teens when The Berlin Wall fell. It was the first historical event that impacted me deeply.

When you were a Student what inspired you to Live Your Yoga?
I am still a yoga student and always will be. I am inspired by the desire to explore and understand my own mind, body and heart; so that I can care for the planet and my fellow humans to the best of my ability.

Pet Peeve?
Closed-Mindedness

Who would people say is your Doppleganger?
People tell me I look like someone they know or this or that actress. But there is no consistency. I am just me.

Favourite Quote?
“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes.” ~ Marcel Proust

Your hope for the Students in Your Training?
I hope that each person might discover tools and practices that allow them to be more sensitive and responsive to their own real and present-centred needs. I think it is this willingness to listen to and be compassionate with ourselves that enables us to authentically and sustainably offer the same to others.
