Meet the Amazing Yoga Teachers on our Team

 

Yogacara’s team of Yoga Teachers (aka Teacher Trainers) are a tight knit group of Teachers having formed valuable peer relationships and friendships while working together over the past years.

Each team member brings her own unique style and essence to our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training giving you, the Student, an opportunity to experience more than one way to learn and teach yoga.

The Teacher Training team meets several times in between programs to discuss and prepare for upcoming trainings ~ to review what we can do better and to listen to feedback from our recent graduates.  Our Teacher Training Director, Helene, provides this entire team of Teachers with structure and support while allowing for each unique personality to shine. 

Combined, these elements ensure you have a solid and cohesive group of to lead you on your Yoga Teacher Training journey.

Meet Emily

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year? Seeing students integrating the information they’ve learned & applying it to their own teaching. It’s really rewarding to hear how excited they are to show others what they’ve learned while applying it to their own practice & lifestyle. Observing that passion & enthusiasm for teaching and yoga in general is inspiring – it has to be one of the best parts of of what I do.

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be? Member of my Family

What inspires you most when teaching students? Life in general! There are so many teachable moments from life that apply to yoga – and vise versa.

Pets? Cats Chelsea and Twitch.

What advice would you give to your younger self? Try not to try so hard. Invest more in yoga, snowboarding and the people you care about.

What types of Yoga do you teach? Hatha, Restorative, Kundalini, Vinyasa.

Meet Juan

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
Watching people who previously thought were limited in some way due to illness, go further than their expectations on their mat.

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be?
One of the first ‘humans,’ I would love to know how we originated and how long ago.

What inspires you most when teaching students?
Everyday personal experiences that I can translate into my yoga practice and vice versa.

Pets?
Diego, he is a Yorkshire crossed with a New Zealand Heading dog.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t be so afraid to show people around you who you truly are. I would have also given myself that t-shirt that says ‘Be yourself because every one else is taken.’

Your hope for the Students in Your Training?
My hope is for the students to know that a good teacher is the one that loves her/his students, wants the best for them and feels compassion toward them and as Tibetan Buddhist teacher Pema Chödrön said, ‘In order to have compassion for others, we have to have compassion for ourselves…..’

Meet Camellia

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
One of my favourite classes to teach is Sunday morning Hatha, there is something about Sunday mornings that sings to me. We were just about to start class and I noticed one of my students, Jeff, was coming out of the washroom with a Kleenex and WD40. I looked at him quizzically, “your door was squeaking so I fixed it, it’s a small thing compared to what you give to us”. I was so moved by this act of kindness and so grateful for him and all of the generous and loving beings that form our Kula.

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be?
Rumi

What inspires you most when teaching students?
Their kindness and compassion towards each other.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Drop the Drama!

Your hope for the Students in Your Training?
My heartfelt desire is to marry the knowledge of teaching yoga with the unique personality that lies in each of us. To create a constant container where each person is supported to find their own voice and style of teaching. We will delve deep, fly high, learn, grow and they will come out the other end strong, confident and ready to teach their yoga.

Meet Nancy

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
My most memorable teaching experience in the past year was a series of one on one sessions with a student going through breast cancer treatment. We practiced Restorative yoga, Pranayama and I read Pema Chodron books to her. I was honored to share in her physical, emotional and energetic “cancer journey” (we name it that). We also laughed a lot!

If you could visit one person from the past, who would it be?
Vanda Scaravelli

What inspires you most when teaching students?
Every class I teach is inspired by the student/s before me on their mat/s. I hold deep gratitude for their presence on the mat, for allowing me to teach them..

Ted, Rottweiler.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
Practice yoga! Listen to your ‘gut’ and trust your intuition. Have the courage to live with less worry and fear.

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
During my teachings I like to treat students to sound therapy session using the Buffalo Drum. One day I completely forgot my drum at home and the look on the students face was priceless! They definitely were missing the Beats that day!

If you could visit one person from the past who would it be?
Albert Einstein

What inspires you most when teaching students?
That moment when everyone comes out of savasana and no one wants to get off their mat. This inspires me because you can physically see the power of yoga.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
High school is easy just wait till you have to buy your own groceries!

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
Seeing students have their ah-ha moments, falling more in love with yoga, their practice and themselves! The ultimate experience has allowed me to have all of these same experiences and learning from them in all of these moments!

Meet Siobhan

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
On the first day of our Costa Rica training, one of our students confessed that she struggled with severe anxiety and, as the training moved forward, it became evident that it was very challenging for her to speak in front of the group. We were very concerned about how she was going to make it through her final 60 minute teaching practicum. But when the day finally came, this beautiful young woman SHONE like the noon day sun. She was loud and clear when she spoke, and her sequencing was dead on. AND – she SANG at the end. Janet and I cried. It was so amazing.

If you could visit one person from the past who would it be?
Laura Ingalls Wilder

What inspires you most when teaching students?
How much THEY inspire ME!

Cutest kitty ever – the sweet little Ferdie.

What advice would you give to your younger self?
None. My younger self made me the person I am today and I thank her for that.

What was your most memorable teaching experience this past year?
In the summer I taught a early morning class at the beach in my hometown. Those mornings were so calm and serene, it was a beautiful way to start the day with a group of beautiful people.

 

If you could visit one person from the past who would it be?

What inspires you most when teaching students?
Seeing the students go from tense and stressed at the beginning of class to calm and relaxed by the end.

Introducing essential oils into my public classes and workshops over this last year has been one of the most influential and memorable experiences in my teaching career.

My mom and dad as young hippie travellers.

Watching people transform in so many ways.
