Review the most Common Questions we receive about our Whistler Village Yoga Training.
Whistler Village ~ Common Questions
The ONLY location that has space & allows for this is the Kalani (Hawaii) Training, as they have a large facility, & your family/friends can stay on-site in a different area from you. There is NO reduction in cost if you opt to stay in their room. The full price applies to you as the student as we book our set area based on specific numbers. You can be in touch with Kalani directly to book these additions if you choose.
At all other locations there is no allowance for this due to space limitations. If you truly want them to come along, they would have to pay the full amount of a registered student or join the program as they would be taking up that space that another could attend.
We suggest that this is a time for YOU! It is intensive program and there is little or no time to spend with people outside your peer group.
No ~ we have mats available at the Studio.
There is limited free parking in the Village, however, there are free parking spots located in the day lots ~ a quick 5 minute walk to the Studio.
No, absolutely not! Anyone wishing to delve deeper into their practice is welcome to join us. The skills and tools we learn in the program can be applied to many aspects of life… Yoga does not just happen on the mat – it happens in every moment!
Our Program Fees posted by program include everything listed.
Yes, this is first program that all prospective teachers attend. There are opportunities for teachers to continue on with advanced programming thereafter.
When you complete our 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training program you will be certified to teach Hatha & Vinyasa Classes. Specific programs such as Yin or Restorative are continuing education programs that you will take after this initial training, if you choose to do so.
Yoga knows no age and it is never too late or too early to start. All students must be a minimum of 18 Years of age to take the program, but from there on everyone is welcome in our program.
If it is any inspiration, our oldest graduate (Khatun, December 2012) was in her late 70′s!
Everyone is new to Yoga each and everyday. There is no perfection in Yoga, so everyone is welcome at the level they are at. In the program, we all start from the beginning, together!
Absolutely! Rest-assured that our program is not just a cookie-cutter program designed to get students in & out the door as quickly as we can. Our focus is you, the student, and the student becoming the teacher. Your teaching will be a direct reflection of our program and our intention is based on providing you with all the tools you need to succeed. We will have failed our students if we have provided them with anything less.
We welcome students from all backgrounds and ethnicities. Due to the intensity of the program, we require all students be fluent in the English language (reading, writing & speaking).
No, for this program you will receive an official receipt for all payments received, however you will not receive a T2202 slip at the end of the year. Based on our current tuition structure, we are not required to be registered with PCTIA and therefore do not provide the T2202 slips.
The official receipt we provide can be used for income tax purposes against your income earned. Should you need to apply for a BC Student Loan, PCTIA programs are the only ones that can offer that additional benefit.
We ask that all students do their best to refrain from alcohol and drug use during the program. Prescription medication is acceptable assuming it is not being used recreationally.
Smoking is acceptable, but only in the designated areas. If you are a smoker, please ensure you list it on the application.
NOTE: Some of our Locations are NON-SMOKING Facilities. Te Moata, New Zealand is a NON-SMOKING facility.
All that being said, when possible, we will provide some local wine during your graduation celebration for students who would like to enjoy a glass!
Meet Your Teacher ~ Emily Kane
Your Whistler Village Yoga Training Teacher, Emily Kane, is completely committed to Your Success, Your Experience and helping You to attain living what you love!
Emily Shares | I started my yoga journey during my first year of high school. I quickly recognized there was more to this than simply cross-training for sports. Yoga’s non-competitive nature was so different than anything I’d experienced. It was difficult as an athlete at first, but I eventually realized how it brought holistic well-being which went so much deeper than conventional activities.
It was during this time that I also discovered snowboarding – although I was still heavily involved in team sports, I absolutely loved to snowboard. Since then I’ve become more focused on the outdoor activities that I love which include snowboarding, hiking, longboarding, surfing… it’s a long list that goes on, but I feel blessed to live in a place where these are accessible.
My love for health and sport lead me to pursue my Kinesiology degree at the University of British Columbia – my original intention was to continue studying rehabilitation but I decided to re-route my plan by opening Yogacara Studios in Whistler, B.C. This way, I could pursue my passions on and off my mat.
Transitioning from a yoga teacher to a teacher/studio owner was a big step but I feel the values I hold helped me do both successfully. These same principles such as organization, leadership and respect are key as a yoga teacher as well. It also gave me the opportunity to integrate the skills I learned in Kinesiology to apply to my teaching style – which includes safety, injury prevention and rehabilitation. I love being able to break these down in a teacher training since it passes on the knowledge in non-traditional format. This allows for a practical approach that tends to be more interactive and “hands-on.”
Teaching in Whistler has been an amazing opportunity which lets me lead students from around the world. It is also a place that requires an adaptable practice to suit all levels since you never know who will be showing up on the mat. Given the access to thrill seeking sports in the area, we also tend to have students with different injuries. This encourages me to create an inclusive practice so everyone is able to participate. I emphasize the importance of inclusivity in teacher trainings since it applies under many different circumstances.
One of the greatest lessons I’ve learned was an unexpected one – the growth I experienced when I broke my wrist last year. I’d never had a major injury and it was a severe break that required surgery. When it first happened I said to myself “I’m not going to let this stop me from doing what I love” so I continued to teach with my arm in a sling. It made me realize the importance of strong verbal cues, and the insignificance of a physical body as a teacher or a yogi. Society tends to place physicality on a pedestal, and as an athletic person I have this tendency as well, but this experience made me reflect on what is truly important. It required me to be vulnerable, to ask for help, and to re-evaluate my priorities.
I am very grateful to teach students in a public setting, but I also really enjoy teacher trainings where we are able to delve deeper. I love passing on the essential knowledge to create effective teachers; providing these tools can also have a profound effect on their own personal journey.
